Assistive Technology

Technology has helped people with disabilities do things that they normally can't. For example, Helen Keller was both blind and deaf after an illness when she was a baby. The technology she used to learn and understand language, was communication. Her teacher would trace the letters of a word in the palm of her hand so she could understand what another person was saying.
Another person to overcome an adversity is Oscar Pistorius. When he was young he had both of his legs amputated below the knee. With the help of a technology called the, Flex-Foot artificial limb, he was able to run track and win countless medals for races in different events.
Someone else who has overcome a hearing impairment is Deidre Downs. Her hearing loss was genetic, both her father and brother had it. She became valadictorian of her high school; and with the help of hearing aids she was able to attend medical school.
